Tuesday saw the completion of Boyd Interactive Gaming Inc.’s $170 million takeover of Pala Interactive LLC, marking a key milestone in the expansion of holding company Boyd Gaming’s online casino presence across the US.
Boyd purchases the proprietary technology from the nine-year-old firm, including a player account management system that offers a cashiering platform and a “unified back office” in this big-news acquisition.
As a B2B service for many license holders, Pala Interactive runs and operates online casino apps in a number of locations across the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, they jointly own and run the Stardust Casino apps in Pennsylvania and New Jersey in conjunction with FanDuel.
An official spokesperson for Boyd has stated that the company will take over those operations in the upcoming months. Since Boyd already operates brick-and-mortar casinos in the other eight states, the business believes that Pala’s workforce and technology will allow Boyd to ultimately provide online gambling apps in those states.
Even though Boyd runs the Valley Forge Casino in Pennsylvania and other sites in Nevada, several of its sites are located in jurisdictions where it is presently prohibited to play at real money online casinos, such as Louisiana, Indiana, Ohio, and Missouri.
When it comes to the likelihood of passing legislation allowing for playing at online casinos, those states are in quite different positions. For instance, Indiana is one of the states that are most likely to follow suit in 2023. In Missouri, however, online gambling is still currently banned in all aspects.
Boyd will indeed be prepared to offer an online casino product should the circumstances within these states and those in which Boyd now conducts business shift.
